This very heavy laser cannon fires a huge laser propelled package in an upwards arc like an artillery shell. The mortar is not aimed at a particular ship, but rather at an area of space. When it hits that point the laser ball explodes in a large blast radius, rocking, and damaging any nearby ships, both friend, and foe. An extremely powerful, and expensive weapon, the Star Mortar is an interesting conundrum of tactical options. Aim them near for greater accuracy, but too close, and you'll damage your own ship. Fire at a distance for the ultimate artillery attack, but accurate aiming is practically luck at extreme ranges.
