Star Mines are a special weapon used for area denial. Mines are initially immobile, but when an enemy ship comes close enough, they follow the ship until they either hit or are shot down by point defence Lancers. Mines can only be placed by the Minelayer class of ships, which only the Terran Empire and Procyon Expanse have access to.

Overview[]

Summary[]

Pros[]

  • Massive damage.
  • Tracks moving targets.

Cons[]

  • Close range to activate.
  • Mines can be swept via point defence or other Lancers.

Notes[]

Star Mines have hit points and can be manually targeted. If a ship lack point-defence armaments, on-board Small Lancers can still be effective in striking them down.

History[]

Star Mines are the weapons that sailors have the most nightmares about. Small metal canisters filled with explosives, they are nearly impossible to see on the open Etherium. When an enemy ship gets too close, they suddenly come alive, their rudimentary propulsion system pushing them against the hull where they detonate. Mines are best dropped either during battle when nearby ships won't be able to avoid them, or placed somewhere enemy ships are sure to go, such as their repair docks.
