TerranFrigate

When most citizens think of the Royal Navy it is this vessel, the Frigate, they think of. Plentiful, powerful, and strong, the Navy is able to keep the peace with the presence of this ship. This vessel is slower than the Fast Frigate, but is more heavily armed, and carries a significant complement of fighters for boarding other ships. While not as powerful as the Man-o-War, it can still deliver a very powerful broadside.

Overview

A powerful and cost efficient brawling ship. The Frigate has a strong hull, great firepower and average mobility. Its chase guns are decent, being two Medium Cannons on the bow and stern. However, most of the Frigate's firepower is on the broadside, which is superior to any other ship within the Frigate's price range. The Frigate is a versatile option with few weaknesses.

Battle Strategy

Excluding the Torpedo, this is used like the Heavy Scout. It's a brawling ship, which means you get in range and trade fire with the enemy, hoping to come out on top as this ship has very good broadside firepower. It bow and stern firepower isn't bad either. It's not as good on a frontal attack as the Procyon Frigate, but is far more durable and has overall more firepower, especially in its broadside. It also has significantly more firepower than the Carrack, more utility from the Grav Charge, and even is better at boarding, with more crew and a better placed Harpoon. It is comparable in durability to a Carrack as well, with more HP but being made out of a weaker material. You can replace the Grav Charges and Harpoons with Cannons for even more firepower if you want. Another option, is to put the Grav Charges on the stern instead, where they are generally more useful, as you can block Torpedoes with them there, and hold enemies in place while you turn around and broadside them.

Counter-Tactics

Avoid brawling with it, and keep to its stern or bow where its weaker. Since its a versatile ship, it doesn't really have any outstanding weakness. It's pretty big though, so Carronades may help you get an upper hand in a straight up fight, while still landing reliably.

Trivia

  • In the demo and manual, the Imperial Frigate had a symmetrical weapon layout instead of the asymmetrical layout it uses in the final game. Specifically, it had Medium Laser Cannons where the Grav Charges and Harpoon Guns are by default in the final version, as well as having Grav Charges as the default stern chasers instead of Medium Laser Cannons.
    ManualArming

The Frigate's old loadout, as shown in the manual.

  • In the files, the Imperial Frigate, along with the Imperial Man-o-War and StarHammer, was originally equipped with a Medium Point-Defence Lancer on its bow, instead of the Light Lancer it uses in the final game.
