Legend of Treasure Planet

Captain Flint is the overarching antagonist of Treasure Planet.

Here is a legend of many retellings, for over a course of a hundred years it has been passed from one generation of spacers to the next. On the clearest of nights, when the winds of the Etherium were calm, and peaceful. The great merchant ships with their cargoes of Arcturian solar crystals, felt safe and secure. Little did they suspect, that they were pursued by... pirates! And the most feared of all these pirates... was the notorious Captain Nathaniel Flint. Like a Candarian zaftwing overtaking its prey, Flint and his band of renegades swooped in out of nowhere,... and then,-- gathering up their spoils... vanished without a trace.

Flint's secret trove was never found, but stories have persisted-- that it remains hidden- somewhere at the farthest reaches of the galaxy, stowed with riches beyond imagination, the loot of a thousand worlds, Treasure Planet. The original prologue is narrated by the Adult Jim Hawkins. "There are nights when the Etherium is as calm and peaceful as a pond of the planet Pelsanor. Nights when the big merchant ships with their cargoes of Arcturian solar crystals can expect a smooth ride. "But there was a time, when even the calmest night-- could give way to the unexpected... pirates! The enemies of all honest spacers.

And the most feared of all these pirates... was the notorious Captain Nathaniel Flint. Flint, and his band of renegades would mysteriously swoop in out of nowhere... ...and then gathering up their spoils, vanished without a trace. For a hundred years, stories passed from spacer to spacer to Flint's secret trove, hidden somewhere at the fathest reaches of the galaxy, stowed with riches beyond imagination, the loot of a thousand worlds. As a kid growing up on the mining planet Montresor, I lived and breathed those legends. Many a night, I drifted to sleep with images of galleons, far away planets, and Flint's gleeming trove, dancing through my head.

And then, I turned 15."
